Presission milling with Mjøs Metallvarefabrikk

At Revolve NTNU, we’re proud to have Mjøs Metallvarefabrikk as a long-standing sponsor and trusted partner in the manufacturing of some of the most critical components in our race car.

Our collaboration began back in 2015 and has since grown into a strong and reliable partnership. With extensive in-house capabilities spanning prototyping, casting, machining, assembly, and testing, Mjøs Metallvarefabrikk brings invaluable expertise to the table. Their commitment to a design-for-production mindset allows us to take our engineering designs from concept to high-performance reality.

One of the most iconic components they’ve helped us produce over the years is the rim center, an essential part of the wheel assembly. Since 2018, machining our rim centers has almost become a tradition for Mjøs Metallvarefabrikk. In 2020, they stepped up to the challenge of producing our newly designed aluminum uprights. In the following seasons (2021 and 2022), they continued to support us by machining upgraded rim centers that also doubled as hubs for our gearboxes.

This year’s hubs are better than ever. Mjøs Metallvarefabrikk has taken on the challenge of machining them through an incredibly precise 5-axis process. The result? We managed to cut 120 grams off each hub, bringing the weight down from 520g to 399g, all while keeping the same strength and stiffness as before. Inside, we’ve also made room for new rotary elements, making everything more compact and efficient. These changes help us reduce weight without sacrificing performance.

The process to make these hubs isn’t easy. It’s a detailed and time-consuming machining job that needs to be perfect. If the measurements are off by even 0.001 mm, it could throw off the entire gearbox alignment. That’s why we trust Mjøs Metallvarefabrikk to get it right every single time. Their attention to detail and commitment to quality are second to none.

We’re incredibly grateful for the continued support and precision engineering Mjøs Metallvarefabrikk brings to our team. It’s partners like them that help us drive innovation and performance, both on and off the track.
